NFL Rankings Week 15

December 13, 2010 in NFL Power Rankings

Matt Forte

Can Forte revive the Bears after THAT beating?

NFL Rankings are one of those things a lot of people find interesting and influence a lot of betting decisions.  Here’s how Rick Gosselin (outstanding NFL Columnist) sees it after Sunday’s Week 14 games.

  1. New England – Tom Brady hasn’t thrown an interception in eight games and the Patriots haven’t lost in the last five games. In the last two weeks, New England has throttled a pair of 9-4 teams (Jets and Bears) by a combined score of 81-10.
  2. Atlanta
  3. New Orleans
  4. Pittsburgh
  5. Philadelphia
  6. Baltimore
  7. NY Giants
  8. NY Jets
  9. Chicago
  10. Jax

From a handicapper’s perspective its an interesting list and hard to really dispute, but we can learn a thing or two. Right off the bat you can see that Jax is above Indy, who’s already a 4.5 pt favorite.  Typically, Vegas gives the home team 3 pts, so if Gosselin is right, we’d expect Jax to be getting less than 3.  If you’re a value player, Jax is certainly a nice place to start week 15.

Futures bettors, this a great list to keep in mind if you’re looking at Superbowl of Conference Championship plays. I’d break this list into 3 categories, Hot, Not, & Hanging Around, then make your plays accordingly.

Hot

  • New England – Rolling through everybody
  • Atlanta – Most balanced NFC team
  • New Orleans – Getting healthy
  • Jax – Best rushing team in the NFL?

Not

  • Chicago – Finally exposed?
  • Jets – Lost their Mojo

Hangin Around

  • Pittsburgh – Ben R is beat up.
  • Philly – Gut reaction from last night, can’t protect Vick.
  • Baltimore – Defense could be a problem
  • Giants – Inconsistent

Power Rankings – Week 9 NFL

November 2, 2010 in NFL Power Rankings

One of the craziest NFL seasons in recent memory continued on its totally unexpected path this past weekend – and now – some familiar faces are back at the top of my Week 9 NFL Power Rankings.

This NFL power rankings breakdown on each of the league’s 32 teams will give avid BetUS pro football betting gamblers something to chew on as they begin to think about formulating their potential Week 10 wagering selections.

1. New England Patriots (6-1 SU, 4-2-1 ATS)

Five straight wins and a 3-1-1 ATS mark during the span tell me the Pats are back baby – even if you can’t stand them – or Bill Belichick!

Next Game: at Cleveland

2. Indianapolis Colts (5-2 SU, 4-2-1 ATS)

The Colts have won three straight and are back to looking like the best team in the AFC South after pounding the Texans this past weekend – just as I predicted.

Next Game: at Philadelphia

3. New York Giants (5-2 SU, 4-3 ATS)

The G-Men have won four straight while going 3-1 ATS during the span to move to the top of the dismal NFC East. New York is ranked a stellar third in offense and an even more impressive second in defense.

Next Game: at Seattle

4. Pittsburgh Steelers (5-2 SU, 4-3 ATS)

I’m glad the Stelers got a loss againt New Orleans on Monday night after getting g away with robbery against Miami one week earlier. Still, the Steelers have the clear-cut look of a team that is going to challenge for the AFC champiosnhip.

Next game: at Cincinnati

5. New York Jets (5-2 SU, 5-2ATS)

New York failed to get on the scoreboard in its 9-0 loss to Green Bay on Sunday, but I’m not too worried at this point as the Jets receiving corps repeatedly let down Mark Sanchez by routinely dropping passes.

Next Game: at Detroit -4

6. Baltimore Ravens (5-2 SU, 3-3-1 ATS)

The Ravens had a bye this weekend but had better be wary of a Miami defense that has been absolutely fantastic this season.

Next Game:  vs. Miami

7. Kansas City Chiefs (5-2 SU, 5-2 ATS)

I keep saying it .. the Chiefs are for real! K.C. is ranked first in rushing but had their modest two-game ATS winning streak snapped in Week 8.

Next Game: vs. Oakland

8. Green Bay Packers (5-3 SU, 4-4 ATS)

The Packers pitched a shutout against the Jets on Sunday to stay in the top 10 in my Week 9 NFL Power Rankings – and now look like a virtual lock to smash the Cowboys on Sunday!

Next Game: vs. Cowboys

9. New Orleans Saints (5-3 SU, 3-5 ATS)

The Saints got just enough offense – and a phenomenal effort from their defense – to halt Pittsburgh on Sunday night and move back inside the top 10 in the Week 9 NFL power rankings.

Next Game: vs. Panthers

10. Atlanta Falcons (5-2 SU, 4-3 ATS)

The Falcons had a bye this weekend but had better be ready for the Josh Freeman-led Buccaneers who have gone 5-1 ATS in their L/5 games against the Falcons.

Next Game: vs. Tampa Bay

11. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (5-2 SU, 4-3 ATS)

Yo, NFL gamblers, Buccaneers quarterback Josh Freeman is absolutely ‘money’ when the game is on the line! The Bucs are getting eight points at Atlanta?

Next Game: at Atlanta

12. Miami Dolphins (4-3 SU, 5-2 ATS)

The Dolphins should be sitting at 5-2 after getting robbed against the Steelers two weeks ago, but hey, that’s in the past. Miami will need to duplicate its latest performance against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 9, if they want to keep pace with the Pats and Jets in the competitive AFC East.

Next Game: At Baltimore

13. Houston Texans (4-3 SU, 3-4 ATS)

I had high hopes for the Texans when the season started, but after two losses in the last three weeks, I can see it’s more of the same old song in Houston.

Next Game: vs. Chargers

14. Tennessee Titans (5-3 SU/ATS)

Call me nuts, but I’m starting to think Kerry Collins is still better than Vince Young … uugh!

Next Game: BYE

15. Philadelphia Eagles (4-3 SU, 3-4 ATS)

Mike Vick will be back for the Birds and that’s a good thing. Andy Reid will also be on the sideline – and that’s not so good, particularly when Peyton Manning is visiting!

Next Game: vs. Colts

16. Chicago Bears (4-3 SU, 3-4 ATS)

The Bears are coming off a bye last week and should be thanking their lucky stars they’re facing the pitiful Bills after dropping each of their last two games.

Next Game: at Buffalo

17. Oakland Raiders (4-4 SU, 5-3 ATS)

The Raiders have looked phenomenal in each of the last two weeks in scoring a combined 92 points and allowing just 17 over the two-game stertch. All of a sudden, their Week 9 matchup against the Chiefs looks like it has the possibility of being one of the best games on the docket!

Next game: vs. Chiefs

18. Jacksonville Jaguars (4-4 SU, 4-4 ATS)

The Jags get a well-deserved rest in Week 9 after laying a huge pounding on the Dallas Cowboys in Week 8 to move back inside the top 20 in my Week 9 NFL Power Rankings.

Next Game: BYE

19. Washington Redskins (4-4 SU, 4-3-1 ATS)

Mike Shanahan has lost his damn mind! One day he’s benching Donovan McNabb and coming up with multiple excuses and the next, he’s giving drugged-out former No. 1 overall draft pick JaMarcus Russell a tryout! Maybe it’s me, but I’ve lost all respect for Shanny.

Next Game: BYE

20. Seattle Seahawks (4-3 SU, 4-3 ATS)

The Seahawks didn’t look good at all in getting routed by Oakland in Week 8 and could fall even further in the NFL power rankings if they can’t handle the red-hot Giants in their Week 9 clash.

Next Game: vs Giants

21. St. Louis Rams (4-4 SU, 6-2 ATS)

The Rams ‘took out the trash’ in beating Carolina 20-10 and get a nice break after getting off to an unfathomable 4-4 start after eight games!

Next Game: BYE

22. San Diego Chargers (3-5 SU, 3-5 ATS)

Despite the fact that the Chargers are probably the biggest bunch of underachievers in the league, I called their Week 8 win over Tennessee perfectly. They Bolts will look to stay on track at Houston next week and could have Vincent Jackson in the lineup.

Next Game: at Houston

23. Detroit Lions (2-5 SU, 6-1 ATS)

I have the Lions ranked above teams like Minnesota and Cincinnati simply because of they way they played in their win over Washington on Sunday. Believe it or not NFL betting enthusiasts, the Lions could have the game’s next great trio in Matt Stafford, Calvin Johnson and Jahvid Best. Time will tell.

Next game: vs Jets

24. Arizona Cardinals (3-4 SU, 2-5 ATS)

Maybe it’s me, but I think Matt Leinart would have been better than the Derek Anderson-Max Hall, quarterback-by-committee formula head coach Ken Whisenhunt is currently using. Hell, I’ll take Kurt Warner back over all three for that matter!

Next Game: at Minnesota

25. Minnesota Vikings (2-5 SU, 2-5 ATS)

O-V-E-R-A-T-E-D! No I’m not talking about the Miami Heat, but you get the idea! If the Vikes don’t immediately start Tavaris Jackson for the remainder of the season, I’m calling for Brad Childress to get the boot!

Next Game: vs. Cardinals

26. San Francisco 49ers (2-6 SU, 3-5 ATS)

The Niners got a win in England – and found out that Troy Smith is better than Alex Smith – all in one game – not the six years they’ve gine ‘the other Smith’!

Next Game: BYE

27. Cincinnati Bengals (2-5 SU, 2-5 ATS)

The Bengals are bunglingling blunderers – but hey, it’s not my boy T.O.’s fault. Ha!

Next game: vs. Pittsburgh

28. Cleveland Browns (2-5 SU, 3-4 ATS)

The Browns had a bye in Week 8, but should get another in Week 9 in order to avoid the streaking New England Patriots!

Next Game: vs. Patriots

29. Denver Broncos (2-6 SU, 2-6 ATS)

The Broncos have allowed the second-most points in the league this season and couldn’t stop running water at this point! It’s a damn shame too, because Kyle orton has played stellar football at quarterback this season.

Next Game: BYE

30. Carolina Panthers (1-6 SU, 2-5 ATS)

Incredibly, Carolina managed to take another step backwards in Sunday’s 20-10 road loss to St. Louis. As a prize, the Panthers get to face a New Orleans Saints team that obliterated Pittsburgh on Sunday night. I guess things could be worse… at least the Panthers aren’t sitting at the bottom of the Week 9 NFL power rankings!

Next Game: vs. Saints

31. Dallas Cowboys (1-6 SU, 1-6 ATS)

If you hate the Cowboys (I do) then you’re probably in heaven right now. If you like the ‘Boys, then just know this – things could get even uglier at Green Bay in Week 9!

Next Game: at Packers

32. Buffalo Bills (0-7 SU, 3-4 ATS)

I’m going to show the Bills and their fans some love by saying they have a real shot to win their first game of the season at home against Chicago after ranking dead last in my Week 9 NFL Power Rankings!

Next Game: vs. Bears
