Indianapolis Colts -2½ at San Diego Chargers
by Doug Harper – This is one of those times when you’ve simply got to decide if you’re a believer or not. Indy is clearly the better team on paper and have proven it with their play so far this season. The problem is they are still young and somewhat inexperienced with success. It’s the classic trap game scenario… traveling to a weaker opponent while looking ahead to next week’s showdown with Denver.
San Diego has shown the ability to play well, especially with River’s level of play, but they are a so inconsistent it’s hard to have confidence in them. The Colts are stingy in the passing game but not so hot at defending the run, problem is… San Diego doesn’t run well because of inferior O-line play.
The Colts have all the advantages when you break down each aspect of this game. The only question is will they bring their A-game? I’m going with Indy because they’re consistently good, who know’s what the Chargers will do. Pick: Colts.
Total Tackles & Assists – Antoine Bethea (IND) over 7: Bethea is good safety who’s always been a dependable tackler. San Diego’s offense has been producing lots of tackle opportunities (5th most in the NFL) this year & Antonio Gates is targeted often. Bethea will draw Gates often and should have a good night statistically.
