by Doug Harper – Chiefs vs Eagles is one of week 3’s most interesting games. Everyone is fascinated by Chip Kelly’s offense & Andy Reid returns to Philly with a surprising 2-0 Chiefs team led by Alex Smith.
I’ll get to the point… I like the Chiefs +3½ tonight. The line has moved quite a bit, so get down early before it moves to 3 – the twig could be hugely important.
I usually don’t care for teams traveling on short weeks, but this is sort of a unique situation. KC is flying high and probably can’t wait to get on the field, but there are two other reasons to like the Chiefs.
They’ve got great uniforms. Andy Reid is great coach and he’s got the Chiefs under his spell. He’s better suited to prepare NFL players for a Thursday night game than Kelly. Oh by the way, he’s returning to Philly. His new players know it’s important.
- It’s still a game of players… tough players. Kelly’s got a unique approach, but eventually the better talent will prevail. The Eagles have a terrible defense and nobody knows the individual deficiencies better than Andy Reid.
Let’s go Chiefs.
Total Tackles & Assists – Derrick Johnson (KC) 8½: Johnson is one of the top 3 LB’s in the NFL, he’s got excellent range and makes all the plays. He’s capable of double digit tackles in any game, but I’m not crazy about his stats tonight. I’d like the chance to bet under if the price sneaks up to +150 or so. Tackle props is about opportunities and Chip Kelly’s offense has been providing them. I’m concerned about a conservative game plan by KC chewing up the clock tonight.
Total Tackles & Assists – DeMeco Ryans (PHI) over 7½: We hit on Ryans in week 1, noting that his health is better this year & he’s covered this number in both games. Ryans isn’t as good as Derrick Johnson, but he’s a solid defender. Watch for a healthy dose of Jamaal Charles off right tackle… until Philly proves they can stop it. Ryans covers this easily as KC dominates time of possession by converting third downs frequently.
